About

“Kim Caraher is a backyard philosopher, quantum physicist and writer of magical and haunting works for children.

She practises Chi Kung meditation, extreme reading (while eating) and letting her palate roam free.”

These kind and apt words were written by Susan Wills.

Here are some more words about me from me.

Like everyone else, I’m a lot of things that change all the time. I spend a lot of time thinking, reflecting, contemplating, dreaming, analysing. I write some of this down, now and then. I read, and that builds the thinking, reflecting, contemplating, dreaming, analysing. So does talking, and other forms of communication: emails, websites, blogs, movies, radios, tvs, hugging. I like introspective exercise too, like chi kung and swimming and walking and gym – they all build the thinking, reflecting, contemplating, dreaming, analysing me as well.

When it comes to generating income (and sometimes just for fun) I read what other people write before it is published, and tell them what I think, reflect, contemplate, dream and analyse about it. This process goes by various names: giving feedback, editing, mentorship, manuscript appraisal. Sometimes I think, reflect, contemplate, dream and analyse on a topic suggested by myself or others and write this down, and some people are kind enough to give me money for this. This process also goes by various names: creative writing, writing for children, business writing, resource development, book reviewing, journalism, autobiography, short story writing, play writing. My brother, Colin Thompson, is currently building me a website, www.kimcaraher.com, to highlight the ten children’s books I’ve written. Sometimes I get money for talking to others about what I have thought, reflected, contemplated, dreamt and analysed on a particular topic, and this is usually described as teaching, lecturing, training or lecturing.

I don’t spend much of my time focussing on income generation right now. My main focus is on living, and I only do income generation where that fits in with living. (Of course it is all living. My prioritised living consists mainly of thinking, reflecting, contemplating, dreaming and analysing, as well as exchanging love.). I have cultural permission to behave in this way because of my diagnosis of widespread metastatic cancer. This is why also I feel entitled to the somewhat grandiose title of my blog. However, this is not all that I am, and it is not all that I think, reflect, contemplate, dream and analyse about.

I want to maximise my present opportunities to think, reflect, contemplate, dream and analyse, and blogging seems like one way to go about it. That’s why this is here.
